• The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) will be given to all 11th grade students  in both English Language Arts and Math. As you may remember, this assessment replaces the CST’s and STAR exams  that were given in previous years. Smarter Balanced has developed next-generation assessments to accurately measure student progress toward college and career readiness in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics. SBAC measure student’s proficiency in meeting the high school standards from 9th through 11th grade. SBAC scores may range from “standard not met”, “standard nearly met”, “standard met”, and “standard exceeded”. In previous years, the CST's had an optional component of the test called the Early Assessment Program (EAP) for math and English. The advantage of the EAP assessment was for placement into college level courses without need for remediation. The EAP test will be a part of the SBAC.

The SBAC test is broken down to in 4 different parts, each lasting up to 1 hour 30 minutes. The test will be taken over 4 days. All 11th grade students will take the smarter balanced tests from April 25th -28th, 2017. We will be on a modified bell schedule to allow our 11th grade students to focus on the assessment without interruption.

To learn about the types of questions on the computer-based test, you and your child can view the practice test online at the California Department of Education (CDE) Smarter Balanced Practice Test Web page: . Each Practice Test has about 30 questions, as well as an answer key.
