"Academic Powerhouse" Home of the Titans

The school year is off to a great start in regards to the quality of the "Teaching & Learning" (a common phrase at our school) that is occurring in classrooms! Strong academics are a hallmark of our school, and this year is no exception.

We had some "bumps in the road" with balancing class sizes that were primarily related to budget cuts - that necessitated larger class sizes. The first few weeks were very hectic. I appreciate the parents and students' enduring through schedule changes; especially, on the Middle School side of our campus.

School spirit is sky-high on the High School side of our campus. Last week we completed a very successful Homecoming Week, which culminated with a victory at the football game and a dance. One of the great aspects of our school is that the Middle School students were able to participate in the festivities.

Please read through the HCP Newsletter each month, as you will be informed of the happenings of our school as well as finding out about opportunities for parents to become involved (there are several parent groups).

We also had a great Back to School night, and it was great to see so many parents there. When you are on campus, please say "hello" to me...

One very strong reason for the successes of our students is because of parent involvement! Stay involved...

Message from the HCP Board

Hello Everyone,

The Hercules Community Partnership (HCP) would like to welcome everyone back to the 2010-2011 school year!  We hope the year is off to a good start for you.  We would like to give a great big thank you to all of the volunteers who helped at walk through registration.  We could not get it all done without your help.  We really appreciate all of you.  THANK YOU!

We had our first Hercules Community Partnership general meeting and workshop on September 16.  Linda Young was there from 511 Contra Costa to talk about students using the bus and car pooling.  Did you know if you car pool children to and from school you can earn some money?  Yes, 511 Contra Costa is offering a one-time incentive of $60 to parents of students at HMHS to encourage the formation of carpools. There is a car pool log that needs to be filled out.  For questions and information about this program, please call Valerie Jenkins at 510-215-3217.  A thank you goes to Theresa Boone for setting up this workshop!

The HCP  is still taking memberships.  Please download the attached membership form by clicking on the link below.  Your completed form and the $8 yearly fee can be dropped off at the cashier's office.  We are also looking for HCP Board Members.  If you are interested, please download and complete the attached nomination form by clicking on the link below, then turn it into the downstairs school office.

Throughout the school year, HCP needs parent volunteers for various school events -- especially beginning around March until the end of school.  We need help with the Every 15 Minute Program (for juniors & seniors only), 9th - 11th grade Academic Awards, Senior Academic Awards, 8th grade Celebration, and High School Graduation.  If you would like to volunteer or be in charge of any of these, please let us know.  Thanks in advance for your support!

Sincerely,
The Hercules Community Partnership Board

HMHS Music Notes

Our Titan musicians are off to a great start and are busy preparing for their first event of the year. The Fall Showcase concert will be held on Wednesday, October 27, at 7:30 PM in the HS Gym. It features our 7th -12th grade band, orchestra and choir students. This is also our annual Halloween concert and we will have a costume contest for the musicians.  Audience members are also encouraged to get in the spirit and come in costume to the concert. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students, and free for children 4 and under and will be available at the door.  HMHS teachers and staff are free, so we hope you will come out and support our Titan musicians!

The music department is grateful for the continued support of the Hercules Music Booster Association. This special group of parents and community members works tirelessly to keep our program thriving during these tough times. We no longer receive funding from the district or the school, and could not provide the strong program we have at HMHS without their help. Special thanks to our new and outgoing Music Booster Board of Directors:

Outgoing President: Lisa Sarnicola
Secretary: Arleen Wong
Outgoing Treasurer: Simone Smith
Incoming Treasurer: Carolina Godinez
Financial Secretary: Helen Wong
Publicity: Mika Chisaki
Communications: Jack Lin
Webmaster: Myron Lam
Web Consultant: Lynn Fissell

There are still openings for President and Vice President. Our meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. The next meeting is on Monday, November 1, in the music room H307 at 7:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend.

Finally, a big welcome to our new band and choir director, Mr. Jeff Berrington! Mr. Berrington is a veteran 香港六合彩直播 music teacher and many of our students already have had the privilege of having him as a teacher in one of  the elementary and middle schools where he has taught. He is also a Hercules resident and we are thrilled to have him as part of our HMHS music "team."

Please visit our website by clicking on the Music link on the HMHS website homepage for more information and event details. See you at the concerts!
